Job Summary

A Production Planner-Buyer is primarily responsible for purchasing raw materials and services, scheduling production, and managing inventory. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position works closely with Supply Chain, Production, Engineering, and Quality to understand material requirements, order materials, schedule production, and align activities to meet customer requirements and company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain positive relationships and working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes productivity, respect and collaboration among team members, management, and suppliers.
• Plan, issue and manage supplier purchase orders for raw materials through the complete production cycle. Liaison between production and purchasing regarding raw material requirements. Expedite supplier purchase orders as required.
• Create and manage production schedules to meet customer requirements and company objectives. Promptly communicate changes to sales and customer service team to ensure updated information is relayed to customers.
• Manage accurate raw material, work in process, and finished goods inventory to meet customer requirements and company objectives. Track and report inventory levels using ERP. Completes regular physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
• Monitor and report on supplier performance while addressing issues as required.
• Track and report on production output and capacity utilization to improve efficiency and on-time delivery. Support corrective action for tickets that don't run as expected.
• Utilize ERP system to ensure accurate tickets and manufacturing instructions are issued in a timely manner.
• Maintain ERP master data for all supplies and raw materials.
• Create reports and analyze data to make informed decisions about purchasing, scheduling, manufacturing and packaging.
• Actively engage in continuous improvement activities by providing thoughtful suggestions.
• Occasionally visit US suppliers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma. Tech School/University degree is preferred (business, supply chain or related field).
• 3 years of manufacturing experience in purchasing and/or planning.
• Experience with material resource planning (MRP) and Manufacturing related ERP is preferred.
• Positive, can-do attitude.
• Must be self-motivated, detail oriented, with a sense of urgency and ability to make decisions.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with outstanding follow up skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, in oral and written form.
• Comfortable with negotiating prices and contract terms.
• Skilled at problem-solving, finding, and implementing solutions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point.
• Above average math skills - ability to understand and convert units of measures.
• Ability to work individually and in a team environment.

The employee is may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, low risk of static shock, and wet and/or humid conditions. Individuals may come into contact with cleaning solvents. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
