Adams, Inc. has been in the Elkhorn, WI areas since 1988. We specialize in custom design solutions for homes and businesses in the areas of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, solar solutions, home backup systems and more!

This is an
on-site position at our office in Elkhorn, WI. This is not a hybrid or fully remote role. The schedule for this role is typically Monday - Friday (first shift), with some flexibility to work early or late, depending on the workload. The pay for this role is based on years of relevant experience.

We are searching for a Cost Accountant to join our finance team. As a Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting costs associated with Adams’ projects and operations. This role ensures accurate job costing, supports budgeting and forecasting, and provides actionable insights to improve profitability and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction industry and understands the complexities of multi-trade projects, labor allocation, and material cost management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as related to our Core Values):

  • Maintain accurate and timely cost records for all projects and service lines.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Provide transparent reporting to leadership and auditors.
  • Safeguard sensitive financial data and uphold confidentiality standards.

  • Collaborate with project managers, operations, and procurement teams to gather cost data.
  • Provide training and guidance on job costing processes to internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with non-financial team members.
  • Support a culture of accountability and financial literacy across departments.

  • Work closely with operations and sales teams to align cost analysis with pricing strategies.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to validate material costs and identify savings opportunities.
  • Assist leadership in evaluating the financial impact of strategic initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional projects requiring cost analysis and reporting

  • Prepare detailed job cost reports, variance analyses, and profitability assessments.
  • Monitor labor, material, and overhead costs to ensure accurate allocation.
  • Assist in developing budgets, forecasts, and cost control measures.
  • Identify trends and recommend strategies to improve margins and reduce waste.
Stewardship:
  • Ensure responsible financial management and resource allocation.
  • Support compliance with tax regulations and internal audit requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records for long-term financial planning and sustainability.
 
Qualifications:
 
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience in the construction industry or specifically with job costing project work. 
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of job costing, budgeting, and variance analysis. Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools required. Experience with ServiceTitan is a plus.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and stakeholders required.
Problem Solving: Ability to anticipate challenges, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions under pressure required.

Physical Demands: 
This position is primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites for cost verification and collaboration with field teams. The role requires attention to detail in a fast-paced environment and may involve tight deadlines during month-end and year-end close processes.
 
Work Environment:
The position is primarily office based. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines or respond to urgent issues.
