For the Bakery assistant department manager, this means overseeing the job of the Bakery department manager; and the departments operations, managing the team, ensuring quality of products, streamlining workflow’s and delivering exceptional customer experiences to achieve business goals.
Your Day-to-Day
- Provide outstanding customer service by creating a friendly, helpful environment & answering customer questions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe department, including displays, prep areas, and equipment.
- Ensure shelves and cases are fully stocked with fresh, high-quality products.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and pricing laws and company policies.
- Price and label products accurately, including sale items and special orders.
- Monitor product quality upon arrival and throughout the day.
- Control waste and shrink to manage costs effectively.
- Assist with baking, decorating, and preparing custom orders and platters.
- Help set sales, promotions, and advertising for bakery items.
- Support employee training and supervision, especially in the absence of the bakery manager
- Assist with job interviews, disciplinary conversations, and employee development to support individual and company goals.
- Train and support new and existing Bakery associates to build a skilled and effective team.
- Supporting and filling in as active manager when department manager is absent
- Assist with staff scheduling & if assigned, ensure payroll accuracy to support operational & budget goals.
- Handle unexpected issues like callouts, employee conflicts, & inventory discrepancies promptly & effectively
- Respond to customer complaints to ensure satisfaction and uphold the store’s reputation.
- Manage inventory levels and purchasing to meet customer needs while minimizing waste.
- Support Bakery associates, leads, and supervisors to ensure smooth and efficient department operations.
What you bring to the Farm
- Knowledge of all bakery products, offers and sales
- Bakery professional leadership experience: at least 2 years & 1 year of supervisor experience
- Awareness and driving support office initiatives
- Windows programs and communication tools
- Work collaboratively, communicate, and lead a team of co-workers alongside management
- Ability to demonstrate, encourage, and set the example of Adams’ culture and values
- Exhibit enthusiasm, positivity and vast knowledge about Adams’ products and quality
Working Conditions
- Consistently move, adjust, and position items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Safely use all equipment necessary within the department
- Occasionally ascend/descend a stepstool, stepladder, and/or ladder
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers for duration of shift
- Communicate with others to exchange information
- Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks including in tight and confined spaces

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions – including skill sets, experience, training, certifications and other business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $23.00 - $34.50. At Adams, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation.
