Motor Grader Operator

Adams county is currently seeking motor grader operators in Juniata Nebraska, Roseland Nebraska, and Kenesaw Nebraska. The Motor Grader Operator mixes materials and operates a grader and other heavy equipment to spread and level materials such as gravel, stone, and dirt to maintain roads. This position’s responsibilities include meeting grade specs for highways, public roads, and more.

Essential Job Functions

• Operate a motor grader maintaining gravel and hard surface roads.
• Operates equipment in a manner that will not result in undue or unnecessary equipment breakdown.
• Operate auxiliary equipment as desired and directed.
• Perform maintenance on machinery.
• Check equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status: greasing, oil changes, routine equipment maintenance, and grader blade changes.
• Perform tree and bush cutting.
• Assist with duties related to the upkeep of the roadways and infrastructure of Adams County.
• All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Talents

• Ability to use sight perception and reasoning necessary to balance a grade and cut ditches to reasonable construction tolerance.
• Ability to read all gauges on equipment and make correct judgements in the operation of equipment.
• Ability to accurately estimate distances for the safe operation of equipment and understand/apply traffic laws and other regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience operating a motor grader or heavy equipment, preferred.
• Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License required within six (6) months of hire - department will help obtain Class B CDL.
• Must be able to report to work outside of scheduled work hours for snow and other highway emergencies.

Physical Requirements

This position must be able to sit for long periods of time, and may occasionally lift up to 50lbs. This position must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and work in outdoor temperature extremes.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy.

Schedule:

• Monday-Thursday (10 hr shift) for the months of April-November
• Monday-Friday (8 hr shift) for the months of November-March

Pay: $20.42 - $22.60 per hour
