What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adams County Road Department Truck Driver/Laborer position at ADAMS COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS?
General Purpose
To perform various duties as instructed relating to the maintenance of Adams County roads and drainage systems. Equipment necessary to be able to operator includes pickup trucks, chain saws, brush chippers, dump truck and others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain county roadways to ensure safety of the public
Pothole patching, Weather Permitted
Drainage pipe installation
Work zone safety
Maintain and operate various equipment as required, including: cleaning, greasing, washing and reporting to the supervisor and maintenance requirements.
Desired Minium Qualifications
Valid MS CDL Class A or B driver’s license
Highschool diploma or GED equivalent
Knowledge of operating of said equipment
Basic knowledge of the safe and proper operation of powered equipment, such as: air compressors, jackhammers, and chain saws.
Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing when necessary; ability to observe proper safety precautions; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public; ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions; ability to drive and operate a variety of vehicles under varying weather conditions.
Adams County employees are subject to a background check, pre-employment and random drug screening, and a six (6) month working probation period.
Existing employees are subject to a thirty (30) day probationary period.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, talk and hear; walk, sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 80 pounds to a height of 36”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside in all weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to hot, cold, wet and/ or humid conditions and loud work environment.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday 7 am to 5:30 pm
Employee MUST be available for call out on all storm and weather-related events.
