JOB TITLE: Part-Time Utilities Inspector
LOCATION: Wesley Chapel or Land O’ Lakes, FL
PAY: $25.12/hr.
SCHEDULE: Part-time, 32 hours/week (4 days, 8-hour shifts)
WORK SETTING: Field-based
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Utilities Inspector to support inspection and quality control of utility construction projects. This role ensures compliance with County standards, approved construction plans, and applicable ordinances while working closely with engineers, contractors, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Four (4) years of experience with a contractor, engineering firm, or government entity performing utility construction or inspections
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction plans
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate inspection reports
Preferred:
- College coursework in construction or engineering technology
- Experience in public works or utilities projects
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 lbs. and push/pull heavy objects
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, climb, and walk on uneven terrain
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to enter underground structures for inspection purposes
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Compliance
- Inspect utility construction projects to ensure compliance with County ordinances and approved plans
- Verify required testing is completed and meets standards
- Monitor quality control throughout project lifecycle
Coordination & Communication
- Work with engineers and contractors to ensure project requirements are met
- Investigate and respond to citizen complaints related to utility construction
- Prepare correspondence including letters and punch lists
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily reports documenting construction activity
- Track and verify installed quantities for contractor payment
- Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
Field Operations
- Perform site visits and inspections in active construction environments
- Support overall utility maintenance and project oversight activities
- Perform related duties as assigned
