What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUD Counselor (SUDPT) position at ACTS?
This position is for SUDPT (Trainee) only.
There is a separate position opening for SUDP.

Key Responsibilities (What You Will Be Doing)
- Direct Supervised Clinical Practice: Provide individual and group counseling for clients dealing with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and related co-occurring issues, following established treatment protocols.
- Skill Development: Conduct SUD intake assessments and contribute to the development of treatment plans under the mandatory guidance and final approval of the Clinical Supervisor.
- Compliance and Charting: Maintain comprehensive, timely, and secure Electronic Health Records (EHR) with strict adherence to 42 CFR Part 2 (Confidentiality of SUD Patient Records) and HIPAA regulations.
- Supervision: Attend all mandated individual and group supervision sessions and diligently track clinical hours required for SUDP certification.
- High-Risk Management: Seek and strictly adhere to supervisory guidance for all complex or high-risk SUD cases, ensuring client safety and ethical practice.
Education & Experience
- Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Behavioral Health, Social Science, or a related field required to meet state SUDPT credentialing requirements.
- Experience: Trainee level—no minimum post-graduate experience is required as the focus is on accruing hours toward full SUDP certification.
Licensure & Certification
- Active Washington State SUD Professional Trainee (SUDPT) credential is required.
- Must maintain the SUDPT credential in good standing throughout employment.
Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with diverse communities and foster trust.
- Strong clinical assessment and therapeutic skills related to SUD.
- Knowledge of addiction theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based SUD practices (e.g., CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI)).
- Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, including the strict confidentiality standards of 42 CFR Part 2.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Compensation
- Starting at $20-26 per hour depending on experience and capability.
