Plant Controller, Poultry Further Processing

$115,000 to $130,000 base 20% bonus target

Private, family-owned poultry further processor and wholesale distributor, roughly $500M in annual revenue, serving national restaurant chains, foodservice distributors, and grocery retailers. Opened a second production facility in Hanover, MD in May 2026 to support fast retail growth.
The role
You are the Finance arm of Operations. This is not a desk-based GL and close job. You'll spend real time on the production floor validating standards, yields, labor assumptions, packaging usage, and inventory controls, then make sure what happens on the floor shows up correctly in the financials. Reports to the Controller of Operations Finance. Direct exposure to Plant Managers, the executive team, and the CEO.
What you'll own
- Inventory control: cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliations, adjustments, root-cause investigation across raw material, packaging, WIP, finished goods, and spare parts
- Standard costing in the ERP: materials, packaging, labor, yields, overhead. Run time studies and yield studies to prove the standards
- Monthly manufacturing variance analysis: usage, yield, labor efficiency, mix, PPV, dumps, volume. Separate true operating performance from bad standards or transaction errors
- Plant performance reporting with Operations on yield, labor, throughput, downtime, and margin
- Building inventory and costing controls the right way at a growing two-plant operation
What you bring
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or related
- 5 to 8 years progressive accounting/finance, at least 3 in cost accounting or plant finance
- Hands-on standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis in manufacturing
- Comfortable questioning numbers that don't make sense and chasing them to resolution, fast
- Advanced Excel
Nice to have
- Food, poultry, or meat processing background
- Canopy ERP
Work environment
Office and plant floor. PPE and food safety rules apply in operating areas. Extra hours during close, inventory, budget, and audit periods.
Pay and benefits
$115K to $130K base, 20% bonus potential, cell phone reimbursement, standard benefits and retirement plan.
