Job Description

Our Client is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent with a strong background in commercial, retail, office, and healthcare construction who can confidently step in and lead projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate oversees ground-up and renovation work, coordinates subcontractors, maintains schedules, and partners closely with project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget. Typical projects range from $1 million to $5 million and last approximately 3 to 6 months, with tenant remodels averaging around 20 weeks. This role requires extensive travel across the United States, with a concentration of work on the East Coast, and the ability to work both day and night shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage on-site construction activities for commercial, retail, office, and healthcare projects across the United States.
  • Oversee both ground-up construction and renovation projects, ensuring work meets quality, safety, and schedule requirements.
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors on site, providing clear guidance and resolving issues to keep projects moving efficiently.
  • Maintain and manage the project schedule, proactively addressing delays and adjusting plans to keep the project on track.
  • Run daily on-site meetings to review progress, communicate priorities, and align all subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure projects remain on time and on budget, providing regular updates and feedback.
  • Monitor project costs and resource usage, helping to control expenses and support budget adherence.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to track schedules, progress, and project-related data as needed.
  • Oversee tenant remodeling projects, typically lasting around 20 weeks, ensuring minimal disruption and high-quality results.
  • Travel frequently to project sites across the United States, with a focus on the East Coast, and adjust to varying project demands.
  • Work flexible hours, including both day and night shifts, to support project schedules and milestones.
  • Represent Our Client professionally on job sites, maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
Essential Skills
  • 10 years of experience in commercial construction, including work on retail, healthcare, and office spaces.
  • Proven experience managing both ground-up construction and renovation projects.
  • Strong background in commercial construction management with the ability to lead field operations independently.
  • Demonstrated expertise in subcontractor management, including coordination, scheduling, and performance oversight.
  • Ability to manage projects in the $1 million to $5 million range with typical durations of 3 to 6 months.
  • Experience overseeing tenant remodeling projects, typically around 20 weeks in duration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking schedules, progress, and project-related information.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the United States for project assignments.
  • Ability to work both day and night shifts based on project requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in a field construction environment.

Work Environment

Our Client offers a family-oriented, team-focused atmosphere that takes pride in delivering high-quality service. The organization has more than 40 years of experience providing construction, facility management, and real estate/property management services and partners with major clients in the commercial, retail, healthcare, and corporate sectors. This role is field-based and requires extensive travel to project sites across the United States, with many projects located on the East Coast. The Traveling Superintendent works on projects typically valued between $1 million and $5 million, with durations ranging from 3 to 6 months, and tenant remodels that last around 20 weeks. The work schedule can include both day and night shifts to meet project demands. Our Client provides a company credit card for travel-related expenses such as rental cars, reimburses hotel stays with support from an internal team to help arrange accommodations, and offers mileage reimbursement at $0.72 per mile. A company-provided phone supports communication and coordination while on the road. The culture emphasizes collaboration, professionalism, and long-term client relationships in a fast-paced construction environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Cincinnati, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
