Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer

Job Description
As a Transmission Line Engineer, you will design and develop high-voltage (69kV–500kV ) and medium-voltage (34.5kV, 46kV) overhead and underground transmission line systems, particularly for renewable energy facilities. This role involves performing structural, electrical, and mechanical analyses, preparing engineering drawings, and conducting feasibility studies.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-voltage overhead and underground transmission line systems (69kV–500kV ).
- Perform structural, electrical, and mechanical analysis of transmission lines including conductor selection, pole/tower design, sag/tension calculations, and line clearances.
- Design and develop medium-voltage (34.5kV, 46kV) overhead and underground line systems, especially for renewable energy facilities.
- Prepare engineering drawings, material lists, and technical specifications.
- Conduct route selection studies, cost estimates, and feasibility analyses.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (NESC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE, local utility requirements).
- Support permitting, environmental studies, and right-of-way acquisition.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction crews, and contractors during design, procurement, and construction phases.
- Conduct site visits to support construction, resolve technical issues, and ensure quality control.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging transmission line technologies, materials, and best practices.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Essential Skills
- 3–7 years of experience in transmission line design and engineering.
- Proficiency in industry software (PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Strong understanding of NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and utility design standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
- Preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
Work Environment
This position is fully remote, providing flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere. The project involves a challenging 130kV 6-mile transmission line with 80 structures across complex terrain.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65.00 - $90.00/hr.
