Job Description
The Test Technician will work in a lab and manufacturing environment to assemble, test, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fluid-based systems. This role focuses on supporting the development and validation of refrigeration, HVAC, and thermal management equipment by performing hands-on assembly, instrumentation, and testing activities. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who enjoys working with test equipment, interpreting technical drawings, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on mechanical assembly, basic plumbing, and electrical wiring for test setups and equipment.
- Set up, operate, and maintain test equipment used for evaluating refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid systems.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and blueprints to build and test systems accurately.
- Install and connect instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters, and power meters to test systems.
- Use data acquisition systems to monitor, record, and analyze test data, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fluid system issues during testing and assembly, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Perform soldering, brazing, and plumbing work as needed to assemble and modify test fixtures and systems.
- Work with vacuum pumps and refrigeration systems to prepare and condition equipment for testing.
- Support the testing of industrial chillers, CDUs, and other thermal management equipment, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional team members to refine test procedures and improve product performance.
- Document test setups, procedures, and results clearly and accurately, providing feedback to engineering and leadership.
- Follow safe work practices at all times and actively contribute to a strong safety culture in the lab and manufacturing areas.
- Organize workstations, tools, and test equipment to maintain a clean, efficient, and well-structured work area.
- Manage time effectively to complete multiple tasks and test activities within required deadlines.
- Communicate test status, findings, and issues clearly through written reports and verbal updates.
- At least 2 years of experience as a test technician, manufacturing technician, or in a similar role in an industrial or laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, plumbing, and basic electrical wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.
- Experience using test equipment in a lab or manufacturing setting.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated safe work practices and strong safety awareness.
- Effective organization and time management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Experience testing industrial chillers, CDUs, or similar thermal management equipment.
- Familiarity with refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid systems.
- Experience with instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters, and power meters.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and basic controls, with exposure to PLCs or HMIs considered a plus.
- Experience with soldering, wiring, and brazing in an industrial or lab environment.
- Experience working with plumbing fixtures and vacuum pumps.
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems and related components.
- Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, and data acquisition systems in a test or production environment.
- EPA refrigerant handling certification or willingness to obtain this certification.
The role is based in a lab and manufacturing environment that supports the development and testing of mechanical, electrical, and thermal management systems. You will work around test equipment, refrigeration systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, heat exchangers, vacuum pumps, and various instrumentation and data acquisition systems. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
