Electrical Technician – Shipyard Environment

Pay: $40–$45 per hour (based on experience)

Location: Newport News, Virginia

Schedule: Full-time

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to support installation, repair, and maintenance tasks aboard marine vessels. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial/residential electrical experience and the ability to work confidently in shipyard environments using technical drawings, schematics, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with diagrams, drawings, schematics, and NEC standards.
• Read and understand ship nomenclature, including compartment listings and vessel navigation.
• Install and repair electrical controllers and related components.
• Plan electrical installations, create material lists, and ensure accurate job execution.
• Properly operate electrical test equipment such as multimeters, amp probes, and megger testers.
• Install and troubleshoot phone and data cabling as required.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Experience in commercial and residential electrical work preferred.
• Strong understanding of marine/shipboard electrical systems.
• Ability to navigate and work within ship compartments and confined spaces.
• Demonstrated experience with electrical testing tools and troubleshooting methods.
• Must be able to work safely in a shipyard environment.

Preferred Skills

• Prior marine or shipyard experience (highly preferred).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
