Job Description
The Staff Surveyor supports a wide range of small and large-scale projects across Florida by collecting and interpreting survey data, preparing site and building information models, and producing high-quality CAD deliverables. This role contributes to commercial, retail, and residential projects while working closely with a collaborative team that values technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Collect accurate field data for preparation of surveys by using surveying instruments, GPS, and related equipment and software.
- Interpret and effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, aerial photographs, and other project documentation to assess project needs and assist in determining the project approach.
- Assist in the recovery and verification of survey control points and monumentation to ensure precise project reference frameworks.
- Support construction layout activities, including staking and marking, to guide field construction work.
- Obtain invert elevations and subsurface utility information and document existing utility conditions as required for project design and construction.
- Perform comprehensive photo documentation of project areas to support design, construction, and record-keeping needs.
- Prepare and update CAD-based survey drawings, topographic maps, boundary surveys, and utility surveys using software such as AutoCAD, Terramodel, and Carlson.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop site and building information models that support engineering and construction activities.
- Recommend new approaches, workflows, and technologies that improve efficiency, accuracy, and quality of surveying services.
- Coordinate with team members in both office and field settings to ensure project deadlines, quality standards, and safety practices are met.
- Travel to project sites and client locations as needed to support ongoing survey and layout activities.
- Participate in field work, including occasional evening and weekend assignments, when project schedules require.
- High school diploma or higher.
- Experience performing topographic, boundary, and utility surveys and construction layout.
- Strong CAD and computer skills, including proficiency with AutoCAD and familiarity with software such as Terramodel and Carlson.
- Ability to effectively use surveying instruments and GPS equipment for field data collection.
- Proficient mathematical ability for survey calculations and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of survey data and deliverables.
- Ability to multi-task effectively and manage priorities across multiple projects.
- Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities for interpreting survey data and project information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and team collaboration.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in office and field settings.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and client locations as required.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to participate in field work and work during evenings and/or weekends when necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying is a plus.
- Experience with GPS-based survey methods is a plus.
- Familiarity with aerial imagery and aerial photography for project assessment.
- Comfort working with Microsoft Word and Excel for reports, documentation, and data management.
- Interest in working with advanced technologies such as laser scanning and drones.

This position splits time between office and field environments. In the office, you work with CAD software, survey data, reports, maps, and engineering plans using tools such as AutoCAD, Terramodel, Carlson, and standard office applications. In the field, you collect data using surveying instruments, GPS equipment, and other tools while documenting site conditions through measurements and photography. The role involves travel to various commercial, retail, and residential project sites across the region and within Florida, with occasional evening and weekend work based on project needs. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami Lakes, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $32.00/hr.
