Job Description
The Survey CAD Technician will support a civil engineering and land surveying consulting firm specializing in residential and commercial land development projects. This role focuses on transforming field survey data into precise, high-quality CAD drawings and survey documents using modern surveying technology and software. Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with survey team members to support the survey department and ensure timely, accurate project delivery.
- Process field survey data for the production of plats, plans, and other project documents.
- Prepare cutsheets to support construction stakeout activities.
- Perform deed, plat, and record drawing research to support boundary and property-related work.
- Prepare boundary composite maps and detailed property descriptions.
- Process 3-D point cloud data to create surfaces and contour maps while maintaining company CAD drafting standards.
- Prepare existing conditions plans and supporting exhibits for land development projects.
- Prepare and format ALTA survey documents in accordance with applicable standards.
- Prepare easement plats and corresponding legal descriptions.
- Prepare accurate As-Built drawings based on field data and project requirements.
- Conduct deed research to support boundary, easement, and property-related determinations.
- Adhere to and help maintain company CAD standards and best practices throughout all survey deliverables.
Essential Skills
- 2–3 years of experience as a Survey CAD Technician.
- Proficiency in survey computing, including processing field data and producing plats, as-builts, and construction stakeout documents.
- Strong experience with boundary plats, As-Built drawings, deed research, construction stakeout, and cutsheets.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Carlson Survey software.
- Experience with Civil 3D or willingness to work toward proficiency (Civil 3D preferred).
- Experience with surveying and land development projects, including residential and commercial sites.
- Experience with deed research and interpreting plats, records, and legal descriptions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Field surveying experience with progression into an office-based CAD role is highly desirable.
- Interest in becoming a Licensed Surveyor is a plus.
Work Environment
The work environment is a collaborative, family-style, open office setting where communication is direct and support is readily available. The survey division uses modern survey technology, including GPS surveying equipment, digital electronic data collectors, and CAD systems such as AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, and Civil 3D, with raw field data transferred directly into CAD for efficient and precise drafting. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
