What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supply Chain Manager position at Actalent?
Job Description
The Supply Chain Manager owns end-to-end supply chain execution in a high-mix electronics manufacturing environment that uses regulated and DoD-qualified components. This role leads buyers, material planning, stockroom, and shipping/receiving operations while driving continuous improvement, supplier performance, and operational discipline. The position requires strong people leadership, deep electronics supply chain experience, and the ability to manage high volume and complexity without losing control of priorities or critical details.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team consisting of 1–4 buyers, a stockroom team of approximately six employees, a shipping and receiving team of approximately two employees, and a material planning supervisor with planners as direct reports.
- Allocate time effectively between people leadership (approximately 60–70%) and individual contribution (approximately 30–40%).
- Own material planning, purchasing, and execution activities to ensure production schedules are fully supported.
- Manage buyer performance and provide clear direction, coaching, and accountability to meet supply chain objectives.
- Oversee supplier communications and escalation paths to resolve issues related to delivery, quality, and performance.
- Ensure proactive visibility into lead times, shortages, and late parts so that the organization avoids last-minute surprises.
- Oversee logistics decisions, including expedite versus standard freight, shipment timing, and cost tradeoffs, to balance service levels and cost.
- Maintain disciplined daily and weekly tracking of MRP-driven commitments to ensure accurate planning and execution.
Essential Skills
- Approximately 10 years of total supply chain experience.
- At least 3–5 years of experience managing supply chain teams and leading people through volume, complexity, and change.
- Proven experience in electronics manufacturing supply chain, including circuit cards, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electronic components.
- Experience working within regulated and DoD-related environments.
- Strong background in supply chain management, procurement, purchasing, and supplier relationship management.
- Hands-on experience with material planning and MRP-driven operations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint, particularly the Material Planning and Purchasing modules, is preferred.
- Experience working with distributors and component suppliers in the electronics industry.
- background in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies, including kaizen.
- Experience with forecasting and planning in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate effectively in data-driven, high-volume environments.
- Demonstrated success in building supplier partnerships rather than purely transactional relationships.
Work Environment
The role operates in a high-mix electronics manufacturing environment that relies on regulated and DoD-qualified components. The Supply Chain Manager leads a multi-functional supply chain team, including buyers, stockroom staff, shipping and receiving personnel, and material planners, and must be comfortable stepping into a leadership role with meaningful scale rather than a small, generalist operation. The position requires close collaboration with production, planning, and supplier quality teams and regular use of MRP/ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Deltek Costpoint in a data-driven, high-volume setting. The work involves approximately 25% travel, primarily to domestic supplier sites, to manage relationships, review performance, and drive improvements. The environment emphasizes operational discipline, structured processes, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on supplier performance, on-time delivery, and quality.
