Job Description: Supplier Quality Technician
This Supplier Quality Technician role focuses on supporting and maintaining supplier quality controls for incoming raw materials and services, ensuring they meet defined quality and compliance standards. The position provides hands-on support with inspection activities, assists in resolving supplier-related quality issues, and offers guidance to inspectors on part inspection requirements. The role combines production support, receiving inspection, and advanced measurement activities using tools such as calipers, micrometers, gages, CMM, and VMS to uphold robust quality assurance processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform verification of supplier-related quality issues against defined criteria and prepare all necessary paperwork to return nonconforming material.
- Receive and review nonconforming material reports to ensure material is properly identified, packaged, and protected to maintain its integrity until disposition.
- Execute site containment actions for supplier quality-related issues to prevent further impact on production.
- Support the collection and tracking of supplier quality performance information to monitor and evaluate supplier performance.
- Coordinate and manage disposition and purge screening activities with suppliers and third-party service providers.
- Support the Nonconforming Material (NCM) disposition process, including investigation of supplier-related issues and system-related tasks such as sorting and purging.
- Provide production support by assisting with investigations of supplier-related quality issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
- Perform receiving inspection support and management by measuring parts using inspection tools and verifying conformance to specifications.
- Conduct CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and VMS (Vision Measuring System) related inspections to ensure accurate part measurement and compliance with specifications.
- Support quality control systems and services by assisting engineering teams with root cause analysis of supplier-related quality issues.
- Ensure dimensional checks, visual inspections, sampling, and verification of parts against standards and specifications.
- Support supplier quality activities related to incoming inspection and vendor qualification.
- Review and support documentation and compliance activities, including control plans, PPAPs, inspection reports, and related quality records.
- Provide guidance to inspectors on part inspection requirements and proper use of measurement tools and equipment.
Essential Skills
- Associate’s Degree with 1 or more years of related experience is preferred.
- Quality control and inspection experience using calipers, micrometers, and gages.
- Ability to run a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) for inspection purposes (programming not required).
- Basic understanding of materials, manufacturing technologies, and production processes.
- Minimum understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to read and interpret part specification drawings.
- Ability to review supplier PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation.
- Ability to review Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs) and support quality control documentation.
- Experience with supplier quality, quality control, and quality inspection activities.
- Proficiency in part measurement and use of inspection tools and equipment.
- Experience supporting nonconforming material processes and investigations of supplier-related issues.
- Ability to support root cause analysis in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with PPAP documentation, SCARs, CAPA, and quality assurance processes.
- Familiarity with quality control systems and services related to supplier quality.
- Experience with Vision Measuring Systems (VMS) or similar advanced measurement technologies.
- Exposure to vendor qualification and incoming inspection processes.
- Strong documentation skills for reviewing and maintaining control plans, inspection reports, and related quality records.
- Ability to work effectively with inspectors, engineering, and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Grove, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
