Job Title: Structural Drafter
Job Description
The Structural Drafter is responsible for creating precise fabrication and assembly drawings, as well as building blueprints and details used in the production of steel components for custom fire training structures. This on-site position requires combining CAD design expertise with collaboration alongside fabrication teams and project managers.
Responsibilities
- Create architectural floor plans from customer-approved conceptual plans.
- Develop structural framing plans based on required openings and special framing needs.
- Incorporate customer specifications, project requirements, and field notes into 3D erection drawings.
- Ensure compliance with drafting standards, including dimensioning, tolerances, material specifications, and welding symbols.
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D fabrication drawings for steel components such as stairways, ladders, guardrails, platforms, beams, columns, and panels.
- Generate engineering drawings and models using Autodesk Fusion 360 and Revit.
- Produce shop-ready documentation and CNC-ready files, including G-code or toolpaths for automated equipment.
- Collaborate with shop personnel to clarify drawing details and resolve manufacturability issues during fabrication.
- Support the development of mock-ups and prototypes, and engage in problem-solving for quality and production challenges.
- Maintain and organize CAD files and drawing libraries for manufacturing and quoting use.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Revit with a minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience.
- Strong working knowledge of steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Competence in AutoCAD and Autodesk Fusion 360.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate Degree or technical training in drafting, manufacturing design, or engineering technology.
- Experience with structural steel, metal building systems, or accessory steel installation is preferred.
- Familiarity with rendering/architectural software.
- Professional experience in CAD drafting within a steel, fabrication, or manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to automated fabrication or CNC programming workflows.
Work Environment
This role is entirely on-site, combining CAD design work with close collaboration with fabrication teams and project managers under one roof. The position involves working with advanced technologies such as Autodesk Fusion 360 and AutoCAD, in a dynamic and innovative setting focused on steel component manufacturing.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
