Job Title: Stress Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Stress Engineer with extensive expertise in airframe structures and finite element modeling. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge in FEMAP, Hyper-sizer, or Hyper-X and demonstrate a strong skills in developing and validating models for aircraft structures.
Responsibilities
- Review, update, and compile engineering analytical definitions of structural components and assemblies based on records from prototype build projects.
- Develop standardized analysis criteria and templates.
- Play an integral role in the workflow release process for all structural designs.
- Support the review of manufacturing plans and procedures to ensure compliance with design and loads requirements.
- Support the creation of structural test plans used to verify manufacturing.
- Oversee and coordinate other Stress Engineers' work and act as a Commodity Stress Focal.
- Handle pre-and-post flight structural NRIs for fuselage structures and review team members' work on NRIs assigned to them.
- Handle inspection inquiries, requests, and new inspections from the VGMX team.
- Define primary structures inspections as needed for flight test and EIS.
- Compile and implement tools, methods, and procedures learned and shared with the team.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 10 years of applicable experience in the analysis of structural systems using strength of materials and finite element-based methods.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with a strong understanding of composites analysis, manufacturing, and sizing of composite structures.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with FEA models, including pre and post-processing of NASTRAN models and associated sizing of composite structures.
- Minimum 3 years supporting structural tests with knowledge and practical experience in FEM/Strain gauge data correlation.
- Experience with free-body diagrams and classical stress analysis techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with composites part fabrication and assembly processes.
- Proficiency in FEMAP is a plus.
- Pilot, aircraft homebuilding, and rapid prototyping experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA are highly desired.
- Experience with manufacturing-based ERP systems, such as Oracle, is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant Engineering discipline.
Work Environment
This role consists of a straight 40-hour work week, requiring work during Pacific Time hours. While most positions require onsite presence, very experienced-level candidates may be considered for remote work. The position does not include an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS).
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Dallas, Texas.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr.
