Job Description
This Sterile Processing Technician role focuses on the safe and efficient reprocessing of surgical instruments and scopes, including the use of Medivator AER and Olympus OER systems. The technician supports high-quality patient care by ensuring instruments are properly decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, and ready for use in surgical procedures, while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform all sterile processing duties as directed by lead technicians, following established procedures and protocols.
- Reprocess and assemble specialized instruments and equipment, including washing, preparing for sterilization, and sterilizing trays and instruments.
- Operate specialized washers and sterilizers, including Medivator AER and Olympus OER, in accordance with designated procedures.
- Maintain instruments and equipment to ensure high performance during surgical procedures, including inspection and testing of specialized instruments.
- Lubricate and care for instruments in line with designated cleaning and instrument preparation instructions.
- Document all required information accurately and maintain necessary records related to instrument processing and sterilization.
- Set up case carts for surgical procedures, ensuring all required instruments, equipment, and supplies are included.
- Monitor inventory levels, ensure correct stock of instruments and supplies, and restock equipment and materials as needed.
- Assist with the preparation of equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical and procedural use.
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment used in sterile processing and scope reprocessing, seeking assistance when needed.
- Report hazardous conditions, malfunctioning equipment, accidents, or other incidents promptly to the immediate supervisor.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and meetings as assigned to support continuous quality improvement.
- Engage in training and educational activities to maintain and enhance sterile processing knowledge and skills.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to team communication and coordination.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new or less experienced personnel in sterile processing procedures and protocols.
- Demonstrated experience in scope processing using Medivator AER and Olympus OER systems.
- Strong sterile processing and sterilization experience, including decontamination and assembly of surgical instruments.
- Decontamination experience (required).
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and infection prevention practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot washers, sterilizers, and related processing equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, protocols, and safety procedures consistently.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with surgical and sterile processing teams.
- Ability to work rotating weekends as part of the schedule.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Central Service Technician Certification (CRCST).
- Approximately 5 years of sterile processing experience, with neuro, orthopedic, and robotics experience preferred.
- Experience supporting neuro, orthopedic, and robotics surgical services.
- Strong organizational skills for managing case carts, inventory, and documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing learning through training, educational activities, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse team across multiple shifts.
- Comfort working with automated endoscope reprocessors and other advanced processing equipment.
- High level of reliability and professionalism in a clinical support role.
This position covers a leave of absence and operates in a clinical sterile processing department that supports surgical services. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with required rotating weekend shifts. The role involves working closely with team members from both day and other shifts, interacting with an approximate team of 15 people. The environment is fast-paced and highly regulated, with strict adherence to infection control, safety standards, and equipment handling procedures. The technician works with specialized washers, sterilizers, and automated endoscope reprocessors such as Medivator AER and Olympus OER, as well as a wide range of surgical instruments and equipment. Work takes place in decontamination, assembly, and sterilization areas, where staff follow appropriate clinical attire and personal protective equipment requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Bernardino, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
