As a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of construction projects. You will assist in creating site-specific documents required by EM 385-1-1, such as the Accident Prevention Program (APP) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA). Your responsibilities will include working closely with the contractor's project management team to ensure the APP and AHA are effectively implemented, monitored, and enforced.
Responsibilities- Assist in the creation of site-specific documents like the Accident Prevention Program (APP) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) as required by EM 385-1-1.
- Work with the contractor's project management team to ensure safety programs are implemented and enforced.
- Conduct safety training for all personnel, including new employee orientation, refresher training, toolbox talks, and on-the-spot training.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1 regulations, company policies, insurance requirements, and other applicable standards.
- Review and coordinate subcontractor and third-party safety policies with site safety procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, record violations, and arrange for remediation, completing all related reports and documentation.
- Coordinate responses to on-site emergencies, interfacing with emergency personnel.
- Investigate incidents involving personal injury, property damage, safety violations, or unsafe conditions.
- Develop and refine safety policies and modify design requirements with the management team.
- Minimum of 5 years of cumulative safety experience in the last ten years managing or implementing safety programs on marine construction projects.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, local, and company regulations.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
- Experience with EM-385 projects (NAVFAC / USACE) is preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience in construction and site safety.
- Familiarity with USACE standards.
