Job Description
The Site Manager oversees the planning, budgeting, and execution of automated material handling equipment installations at a semiconductor manufacturing facility in North Phoenix. This role provides on-site leadership for Technicians and Field Engineers, ensures strict adherence to safety and quality standards, and serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders throughout project execution. The Site Manager develops detailed installation plans, manages risks, and drives successful project completion while fostering a collaborative, high-integrity work environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the creation, implementation, and adherence to installation site safety procedures and standards.
- Own project safety execution by conducting regular safety audits, monitoring compliance, and investigating incidents to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Address and resolve challenging situations with customers, contractors, and team members in a professional and solutions-focused manner.
- Oversee day-to-day project execution and deliverables, ensuring installations are completed safely, with high quality, and on schedule.
- Supervise on-site personnel, including Technicians and Field Engineers, providing clear direction and monitoring progress against project plans.
- Interpret project schedules, milestones, and deliverables, and develop detailed installation work plans and schedules.
- Organize and guide installation resource plans on-site, aligning staffing, tools, and materials to meet project requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison with customers for all installation-related activities, maintaining strong communication and managing expectations.
- Oversee communication with all project stakeholders, ensuring timely updates on status, risks, and changes.
- Handle project modifications by assessing impacts, implementing corrective measures, and revising project plans and documentation as needed.
- Finalize and distribute project installation reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness of technical and progress documentation.
- Execute project closure activities, supporting project acceptance and handover by finalizing all installation documentation and ensuring customer sign-off.
- Develop and oversee installation site management documents, including organizational charts, contact lists, and communication protocols.
- Identify project risks related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
- Formulate and manage the installation quality plan, including inspection and testing procedures, and establish document control strategies for project records.
- Guide, mentor, train, and develop internal and contractor project teams, providing ongoing support and direction.
- Promote effective team communication by clearly defining expectations, roles, and responsibilities for all team members.
- Arrange training, team development, and mentoring activities to enhance technical, safety, quality, and interpersonal skills within the team.
- Collaborate with customer representatives and site personnel to coordinate access, scheduling, and integration with other construction or facility activities.
- Use electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment drawings to guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure proper use of specialized tools and diagnostic instruments required for installation and maintenance of automated material handling systems.
- Support commissioning and testing of installed systems, including stockers, conveyors, AGVs, and OHT systems, to verify performance and reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, issues encountered, and resolutions implemented throughout the project lifecycle.
- Demonstrate strong customer relationship management by providing responsive, professional service and clear communication during and after installations.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in project management and overseeing a team of Field Service Engineers in sustaining or installation roles.
- Proven experience managing installation projects involving automated material handling systems or similar industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment drawings, and use them to guide installation and troubleshooting.
- Prior electromechanical experience, including diagnosing and troubleshooting electromechanical devices.
- Familiarity with products such as motors, multimeters, proximity sensors, and conveyor belts.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with customers and managing customer relationships in a technical or project environment.
- Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership skills with experience guiding, mentoring, and supervising technical teams.
- Mechanical and electrical experience sufficient to support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
- Ability to use unique tools applicable to installation and commissioning of automated systems.
- Familiarity with operation and maintenance of at least two of the following: stockers, conveyors, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and overhead hoist transport (OHT) systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and MS Project, for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
- Ability to identify parts and components using equipment drawings and documentation.
- Strong safety orientation and commitment to enforcing safety procedures and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with teams, customers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in complex technical environments.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to travel more than 25% of the time and remain at project sites for extended periods, including potential overseas travel.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Familiarity with electrical diagnostic instruments and shop/hand tools.
- Ability to work a compressed workweek schedule consisting of 11.5-hour shifts and 6 hours of overtime every other week.
- Associates degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with three years of semiconductor automation experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, a technical school certification, or a military certification combined with two or more years of semiconductor automation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with semiconductor automation, AMHS installation, commissioning, facilities maintenance, operations management, or construction management.
- Experience in automation and electromechanics, including working with conveyor belts, multimeters, proximity sensors, and related systems.
- Experience in construction or facilities environments, particularly in large-scale industrial or semiconductor projects.
- Customer relationship management experience, including daily customer service and interactions in technical settings.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to present information to groups of managers, clients, and customers.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Bilingual skills in English and Japanese are preferred.
- Experience using scheduling tools and project management software, including MS Project.
- Demonstrated ability to organize document control, including versioning and distribution of technical and project documents.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across internal teams, contractors, and customer organizations.
- Comfort working in confined spaces as required by certain installation tasks.
Work Environment
This role is fully on-site at a semiconductor fabrication facility in North Phoenix, supporting the installation and management of automated material handling equipment. The Site Manager works closely with installation technicians and customer representatives on the production floor and in related support areas to plan, coordinate, and execute installation activities. Work is conducted in a highly technical, safety-focused environment that emphasizes high integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The position follows a compressed workweek schedule, consisting of 11.5-hour shifts with approximately 6 hours of overtime every other week. The work involves frequent use of hands to handle tools and equipment, reaching with hands and arms, and regular verbal communication. The role occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The Site Manager must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work includes extensive use of electrical diagnostic instruments, shop and hand tools, and interaction with equipment such as stockers, conveyors, AGVs, and OHT systems. Travel of more than 25% may be required, including extended stays at project sites and occasional overseas assignments.
