We are seeking a dedicated Scientist II specializing in Molecular Biology to join our team. This role involves performing both routine and complex laboratory procedures, with a focus on Oncomine Dx testing. The successful candidate will work closely with the Molecular Supervisor or Manager.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures with emphasis on Oncomine Dx testing.
- Assist in the analytical validation of test methodologies for laboratory use.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges with assays and equipment.
- Adhere strictly to testing protocols.
- Provide general laboratory assistance, including receiving lab supplies, isolating DNA/RNA, preparing reagents, building NGS libraries, sequencing DNA/RNA material, data analysis, report generation, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
- Communicate test results in lab reports and team meetings, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Train other employees as required.
- Utilize good documentation practices (GDPs) and adhere to laboratory quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) policies.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety, CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- BS degree in Biological Sciences from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in a related field such as molecular oncology, genetics, or genomics.
- Experience with NGS experimental design and data analysis.
- Proficiency with lab equipment including Genexus, Ion Chef, Ion S5, and PGM system.
- Proficient in using computer systems for data entry, retrieval, and analyses involving word processing programs and spreadsheets.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to problem solve highly complex analyses.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Self-motivated, diligent, and adaptable to shifting priorities.
- Experience with complex computer-driven instrumentation.
- Experience in molecular biology and NGS methodologies.
The work environment is primarily laboratory-based, involving the handling of highly infectious agents and hazardous chemicals. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, bend or twist to access lower cabinets, and perform over-the-head arm movements for high shelf storage. The role may also involve lifting up to 40 lbs. Visual acuity to distinguish colors and auditory ability to hear equipment timers are required. Some time will be spent in an office setting for documentation and writing standard operating procedures. The position is contingent, with work hours spanning Sunday to Saturday.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
