Job Description & Work Environment:
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading and enforcing safety programs across active heavy civil construction projects, including underground utilities, earthwork, grading, paving, concrete, and asphalt work on municipal, commercial, and federal job sites. This role partners closely with field leadership, project management, and executive teams to promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Work Environment: This role is primarily office‑based (approximately 75%) in Englewood, CO, with additional time spent on active construction job sites. Field work includes exposure to changing weather conditions, heavy equipment, excavation activities, and live construction operations. The Safety Manager supports multiple concurrent projects and must be flexible to provide coverage outside standard business hours as needed; availability for nights and weekends is required periodically, though not on a routine basis.

Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and enforce company‑wide safety programs and policies
- Create and manage site‑specific safety plans (SSPs), job hazard analyses (JHAs), and high‑risk activity programs
- Provide oversight and guidance for safety compliance related to excavation, confined space entry, fall protection, and emergency response
- Conduct jobsite safety audits and inspections across active heavy civil projects
- Lead incident and accident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development
- Manage OSHA 300 logs, regulatory reporting, and compliance documentation
- Support workers’ compensation claims, incident tracking, and claims management processes
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications to proactively identify safety risks
- Serve as a safety resource for superintendents, foremen, field crews, and client representatives
- Lead, mentor, and manage field safety staff, including workload distribution and performance development
- Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety communications to field and office personnel
- Maintain consistent field presence to reinforce accountability and safety culture
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of construction safety management experience, including heavy civil or infrastructure projects
- OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926)
- Working knowledge of DOT, MSHA, and EPA regulations
- Experience developing and enforcing safety programs, SSPs, and JHAs
- Hands‑on experience with high‑risk construction activities
- Proven experience with incident investigations, near‑miss reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Experience managing OSHA 300 logs, audits, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Experience leading or supporting field safety personnel across multiple active job sites
- Proficiency with safety management systems and incident tracking software
- Strong communication skills with field crews, supervisors, leadership, and client representatives
- Willingness to support projects during nights and weekends when required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field
- CSP or ASP certification
- Experience managing workers’ compensation claims and return‑to‑work programs
- Background supporting municipal, federal, or DOT‑regulated projects
- Experience leading safety training programs and new‑hire orientations
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior safety professionals
- Exposure to environmental, fleet, or risk audits
- Interest in long‑term growth into broader safety leadership roles
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Englewood, CO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
