The Quality / Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in proactively planning, deploying, and sustaining quality into products and processes using Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and New Product Introduction (NPI) frameworks. This position provides quality leadership across new product and new capital programs, from concept through production validation and launch, with a strong emphasis on prevention-based quality fundamentals, early risk identification, and cross-functional execution to ensure robust, capable processes and successful launches.
Responsibilities
- Lead APQP execution for New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Capital Introduction (NCI) programs, ensuring early identification of validation plans, audit strategies, and project readiness reviews.
- Support the development of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), ensuring risks are identified early and mitigated appropriately.
- Develop, review, and maintain Control Plans that align with PFMEA risk levels, process capability, and customer requirements.
- Serve as the quality lead on new product and capital programs, supporting design readiness, manufacturability assessments, inspection strategies, and error-proofing approaches.
- Lead process validation activities, including capability analysis, production trials, and run-at-rate evaluations to confirm process robustness.
- Partner closely with manufacturing, operations, and engineering teams to ensure internal process readiness prior to and during launch.
- Support early production launches by monitoring quality indicators, addressing emerging risks, and driving preventive and corrective actions.
- Lead structured problem-solving activities when required, ensuring that lessons learned are captured and integrated back into APQP documentation and standards.
- Identify, define, and support quality metrics focused on risk prevention, launch robustness, and continuous improvement.
- Influence and engage cross-functional stakeholders at all levels of the business to build trusted partnerships and drive quality-focused decision-making.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Product Engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with APQP, including hands-on work with PFMEAs and Control Plans.
- Strong background in quality engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Proven analytical and structured problem-solving capability.
- Strong cross-functional indirect leadership skills, with the ability to lead without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage individuals at all levels of the business and build trusted partnerships.
- Experience working in manufacturing and operations environments.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and/or New Capital Introduction (NCI) programs.
- Quality certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
- Experience with process capability analysis and error-proofing methods.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and quality systems such as AQE, MESA, and deviation management tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with quality, manufacturing, design, and operations team members in a proactive quality environment.
- Interest in continuous learning and professional development within quality and manufacturing engineering.
This is an onsite role with standard hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The engineer works within a proactive quality team of approximately 8–10 people and collaborates indirectly with multiple manufacturing and operations employees. The proactive quality team sits together within the broader facility quality organization, and this position reports into the quality function while working closely with cross-functional quality, manufacturing, design, and operations partners. The work setting is a mix of office and factory environments, with roughly 70% of time spent in an office-based cubicle that includes a desk, dual monitors, and storage cabinets, and about 30% of time spent on the factory floor supporting processes and launches.
