Quality Lab Technician - 2nd Shift
Job Description
The Quality Technician plays a vital role in ensuring product excellence by conducting various quality checks and maintaining communication across shifts to ensure seamless production processes.
Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with the first shift at the start of their shift about production status, quality issues, and ongoing activities.
- Rotate between laboratory work and production floor quality checks daily.
- Perform routine quality testing on coatings, packaging, and in-process products.
- Verify process parameters, including temperatures and line conditions, with documented line checks every two hours.
- Conduct basic chemical testing, including moisture, pH (using pH Pro), salt (salt chloride analyzer), and fat analysis.
- Complete instrument calibrations and manage check-in/check-out of laboratory equipment for production use.
- Perform production quality checks from the lab and directly on the manufacturing floor.
- Partner with microbiology team members as needed, where microbiologist support will assist with select testing and act as a floater across areas.
- Provide daily production and quality support for smoked products, pasteurized processed cheese, wedges, blocks for co-packers, and queso dip.
- Handle full-case products, portioning, smoking, and preparing finished goods for return to customers.
- Work with a variety of product formats, including producing vegan cream cheese and vegan cheese wedges.
Essential Skills
- Quality control experience.
- Experience in laboratory settings.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Familiarity with microbiology.
- Experience in the food industry and food production.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1 year of quality experience in food manufacturing within GMP.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 2:30 PM to 11 PM, with two paid 10-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute break. Occasional Saturdays may be required, with double time pay offered. The current team consists of quality techs and microbiologists across shifts. The work environment includes a chem lab located centrally in the production area, a micro lab near the office area, three packaging lines, and eight production lines
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Blue Mounds, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.50 - $28.00/hr.
