Job Description
The Quality Engineer supports all Quality Assurance functions and supervises quality assurance personnel to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements. This role leads and facilitates corrective actions with customers, internal teams, and suppliers, manages key quality systems and certifications, and actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives. The position offers the opportunity to help revamp and build quality practices from the ground up, gaining extensive hands-on experience in quality engineering, project management, and quality standards implementation.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary customer quality liaison for all quality complaints, rejects, and nonconforming material, including responding as the main contact for nonconforming material (NCMs) and corrective actions (CARs).
- Act as the primary auditor for internal quality audits in accordance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Facilitate, recommend, and help implement effective corrective actions by working directly with customers, plant personnel, and suppliers, and prepare formal corrective action responses (CARs) for customers as needed.
- Maintain customer quality certifications as required, ensuring ongoing compliance with customer and industry standards.
- Review and disposition nonconforming material, including authorizing the disposition of customer product through the Material Review and Approval (MRA) process.
- Participate in Six Sigma projects, the Plant Quality Board, and other engineering and production taskforces to drive continuous improvement in quality and processes.
- Train quality personnel on appropriate tests, measurements, and quality control procedures to ensure consistent and accurate inspection practices.
- Complete customer-requested Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation accurately and on time.
- Interpret customer engineering drawings and specifications, including performing necessary unit conversions to support accurate measurements and documentation.
- Assist with and provide training on product, die, and template measurements using both manual methods (such as check fixtures) and coordinate measuring machine (CMM) techniques.
- Support and help revamp quality practices, standards, and procedures within the plant, contributing to the development and implementation of improved quality management systems.
- Support quality management activities such as quality planning, quality control, and quality assurance to meet Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and overall quality management requirements.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in quality engineering and quality assurance within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements and documentation.
- Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Experience with supplier quality activities, including managing nonconforming material and supplier corrective actions.
- Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and quality management principles.
- Practical experience in quality control, including inspection methods, tests, and measurements.
- Audit experience, including conducting internal quality audits to standards such as IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications and perform unit conversions accurately.
- Familiarity with measurement system analysis (MSA), gauge repeatability and reproducibility (GR&R), and calibration systems.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer interaction and preparation of formal corrective action responses.
- Ability to train and guide quality personnel in testing, measurement, and quality procedures.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience participating in or leading Six Sigma projects.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 quality management systems and certification requirements.
- Experience working with Plant Quality Boards or cross-functional engineering and production taskforces.
- Familiarity with coordinate measuring machine (CMM) techniques and manual measurement tools such as check fixtures.
- Experience in quality management, including development and improvement of quality standards and practices.
- Interest in building and revamping quality systems and processes in an evolving quality department.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
- Ability to manage multiple quality projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
This role operates in both floor and office environments, providing exposure to production areas as well as office-based quality and engineering activities. On the production floor, the Quality Engineer works closely with operators, technicians, and engineers, using measurement tools, check fixtures, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to support inspections and quality checks. Office-based work includes preparing PPAP documentation, analyzing data, writing corrective action reports, and managing quality certifications and audits. The position involves participation in cross-functional meetings, taskforces, and quality boards, offering a collaborative setting focused on continuous improvement. The environment is well suited for someone who enjoys a mix of hands-on technical work and analytical, documentation-focused tasks while contributing to the development and enhancement of quality standards and practices.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $40.00/hr.
