Job Description

The Quality Engineer Lead supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by leading quality engineering activities across production and supplier interfaces. This role applies strong mechanical and process knowledge to understand how manufactured units operate, identify quality risks, and implement effective countermeasures. The position focuses on early detection of supplier and process weaknesses, monitoring incoming components, and working closely with supplier representatives to drive corrective actions. The Quality Engineer Lead also evaluates tooling capability, facilitates quality and process meetings, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and leads a diverse team to enhance overall product and process quality.

Responsibilities

• Apply mechanical knowledge to understand product operation and manufacturing processes and use this understanding to prevent and resolve quality issues.
• Identify quality issues quickly on the production floor and implement effective short-term and long-term countermeasures.
• Detect weak points in supplier processes and incoming materials to prevent defects from reaching production.
• Monitor supplier performance using defined quality measures and coordinate support with supplier representatives to address issues.
• Assist suppliers with process improvements and corrective actions to enhance quality, reliability, and consistency of incoming components.
• Evaluate tooling capability, identify gaps, and drive improvements to ensure tooling supports stable and capable processes.
• Lead and facilitate process-focused meetings to define quality measures, analyze performance, and agree on corrective and preventive actions.
• Support and participate in PPR evaluations to review performance, define improvement actions, and track progress.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and development of quality team members and support workforce systems used for coordination and scheduling.
• Lead teams effectively regardless of prior industry or experience, providing clear direction, coaching, and support.
• Collaborate closely with production, engineering, tooling, and supplier teams to drive cross-functional problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Implement and oversee rapid countermeasure processes to contain and resolve quality issues in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, process capability, and supplier performance.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment, including rapid countermeasure implementation.
• Strong mechanical and process knowledge applied to high-volume or complex manufacturing operations.
• Experience with supplier quality, including monitoring supplier performance and driving corrective actions.
• Ability to evaluate tooling capability and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Demonstrated skill in root cause analysis and development of effective corrective and preventive action plans.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and facilitating structured meetings focused on quality and process performance.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across production, engineering, tooling, and supplier teams.
• Hands-on approach to problem solving and continuous improvement on the manufacturing floor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in automotive or powersports manufacturing is preferred.
• Experience working in high-volume or technically complex manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge and practical use of PPAP and related quality engineering methodologies.
• Experience supplier quality management, process improvement, and performance tracking.
• Ability to lead people effectively regardless of prior industry or experience and support their development.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and comfort working with diverse technical and operational teams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burlington, NC.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Burlington,NC.
