TITLE:
Protection & Controls Technician (P&C Tech)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relay and control systems at transmission and distribution substations.
As a technician, you will be trained to test, calibrate, and repair protection and control equipment.
Technicians will enter their training program to be developed into SCADA and relay Techs.
-Will be trained to perform operational checks and tests on various substation equipment, including:
- Microprocessor
- Electromechanical Relays
- Electromechanical Controls
- Current/Future Transformers
- Power Circuit Breakers
- Regulators
- Power Line Carrier Radio
- Traps and Tuners
- Traveling to surrounding substations responsibly for:
- Maintenance
- Repairs
- Replacements
- Additions
- Modifications
- Component’s removal/refurbishing
- Complete rebuild internally
- Troubleshoot and perform preventive and emergent maintenance on previously listed substation equipment.
- Verify that wiring construction work is performed in accordance with detailed design print documentation.
- Document all completed work in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to other groups on protection and control issues.
- Respond to system problems during after-hours on-call rotations.
- Provide top-level customer service to internal and external customers.
- Operate and interpret readings from test equipment, including digital multimeters, digital oscilloscopes, insulation testers, relay test sets, and radio-frequency measurement equipment.
EXPERIENCE:
Electromechanical or microprocessor protection relay installation and testing is desired.
Microprocessor IED and/or PLC technology installation and testing is desired.
Field experience commissioning and/or maintaining electrical equipment is desired.
Basic understanding of electrical protection and/or control circuitry is desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Excellent computer skills
Proven troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of safe work practices
Familiarity with substation equipment is preferred
Exercise clear judgment in critical situations
Make timely, rational decisions where errors can result in negative results
Must manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
Ability to read electrical blueprint/schematic drawings
Good writing and communication skills
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Montgomery, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
