Job Description
We are seeking a Pilot Plant Specialist to perform pilot-scale operational activities within the framework of strategic and exploratory product and process development projects. The aim is to safely execute enzymatic extractions, decantation, and filtration trials. This role includes planning, sample collection, basic analysis during trials, data collection, and reporting to ensure the sharing of learnings with the broader team.
Responsibilities
- Understand objectives on assigned trial requests, product specifications, and process procedures.
- Safely execute the requested trials according to established procedures, perform corresponding analyses, record all data and observations made during the trials, and report findings to the project leader.
- Apply good industrial practices and food standards to ensure quality in trial execution and reporting to guarantee reliability of results.
- Suggest improvements to optimize operations, quality, efficiency, safety, and maintenance, and support implementing these improvements where possible.
- Execute Capex projects as needed.
- Verify that raw materials for trials are available in the right quantities and with the required documentation.
- Maintain and ensure that the used equipment is functional and safe to operate. Timely flag any equipment defects or malfunctions and perform maintenance when applicable.
- Ensure equipment and process standard operating procedures (SOPs) are available and up to date.
- Identify and address potential risks that may affect the achievement of project objectives, timeline, and quality.
- Help guard and improve cleanliness, 5S, safety, maintenance, and quality in the pilot plant.
- Contact third parties, such as suppliers, for maintenance of equipment or required specification sheets of raw materials.
- Work multi-functionally with different groups such as R&D, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Logistics.
Essential Skills
- Experience in food science, process development, and quality assurance.
- Degree in applied science/engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- 1-2 years of experience in production, development, research lab, or food pilot plant.
- Knowledge of biotechnology and food science.
- Ability to independently plan, organize, and execute trials and experiments.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
