Job Description
This phlebotomist role focuses primarily on blood draws while also performing specimen processing, data entry, and front-desk support in a busy patient service center and walk-in laboratory environment. You will provide high-quality, compassionate service to a diverse patient population, handle a high volume of daily draws, and support laboratory operations by entering orders, processing specimens, and ensuring accurate medical records.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and blood draws for a high volume of patients, completing approximately 30 to 40 draws per day.
- Provide professional, compassionate customer service to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, including individuals receiving cancer care.
- Collect blood and other specimens accurately, following established procedures and safety protocols.
- Process specimens, including centrifuging and splitting samples, to prepare them for laboratory testing.
- Enter patient orders and test information into the Touch system and other data entry platforms with a high level of accuracy.
- Maintain and update medical records and documentation to ensure complete and accurate patient information.
- Support front-desk operations after training, including checking in patients and assisting with walk-in lab workflows.
- Participate in a structured training program, including at least 25 observed collections and instruction on front-desk and processing procedures.
- Adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively to support a patient service center that sees approximately 170 to 200 patients daily.
- Float between multiple locations as needed, providing consistent phlebotomy and customer service support across sites in the designated region.
- Follow all laboratory, safety, and quality guidelines to ensure reliable test results and a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Phlebotomy experience with venipuncture and blood draw procedures, including comfort with high daily draw volumes.
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Proficiency in specimen processing, including centrifuge operation and splitting samples.
- Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience entering orders and working with medical record systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality customer service in a patient care setting.
- Ability to learn quickly and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort working with a diverse patient population, including pediatric, geriatric, and oncology patients.
- Willingness and ability to float between multiple locations within the specified region.
- Externship experience in phlebotomy or a related clinical setting.
- Hospital experience or exposure to acute care environments.
- Experience working with geriatric patients.
- Ability to adapt to different workflows and teams across multiple sites.

The home site for this role is in Fullerton, California, with regular floating to locations across northern and central Orange County, Lakewood, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, and up to Manhattan Beach. You will work in a busy patient service center and walk-in lab that serves approximately 170 to 200 patients per day, including pediatric, geriatric, and cancer patients. The role involves 8-hour shifts, with start times varying between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. depending on the location’s operating hours. During the second week of the training program, you will attend a full 40-hour training week focused on entering and processing procedures, which may take place in Wildomar, Tustin, or Los Angeles; hotel accommodations may be provided if needed. The environment is fast-paced, highly patient-facing, and centered on accurate specimen collection, processing, and data entry, with no specific dress code details provided beyond standard professional clinical attire.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.11 - $23.11/hr.
