Phlebotomist

We are seeking a skilled phlebotomist with experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and patient information management. The role involves collecting and storing specimens, explaining procedures to patients, and maintaining high standards of specimen integrity and safety.

Responsibilities

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture or other specimen collection processes to patients.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.
• Comprehend and execute physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training.
• Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results when needed.

• Proficiency in blood drawing and phlebotomy.
• Experience in high-volume blood draw environments.
• Ability to handle difficult sticks and oncology patients.
• Strong understanding of specimen processing and data entry for laboratory purposes.

• GED or High School Diploma required.
• Experience in a high-volume patient service center or oncology center preferred.
• Ability to adapt to different personalities and maintain a positive demeanor.
• Experience in handling difficult sticks and oncology patients is a plus.
• No certification needed for phlebotomy; training will be provided.

This is an extremely busy location where phlebotomists perform 30 to 50 draws per day. The role involves working at the front end for blood work and potentially cross-training for back-end processing tasks. The facility has multiple pods for blood drawing with a collaborative team environment. The work requires high energy and adaptability to different patient needs and personalities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Teaneck, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
