Job Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make recommendations to improve workflow.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection in a courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Place samples in the appropriate collection container or tube and follow specific procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
• Ability to collect and handle specimens properly.
• Experience in geriatrics and pediatrics.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a medical setting is beneficial.
• Geriatric experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in a small practice primarily serving geriatric patients in Annandale, VA. The working hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with two days requiring an earlier start of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Annandale, VA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Annandale,VA.
