Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, including blood drawing and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal samples.
• Demonstrate proper techniques using straight and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physician orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script 100%.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature in the appropriate collection container/tube.
• Accurately label and follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in some states).
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to specific protocols and procedures to maintain specimen integrity and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.

This is a Contract position based out of Matthews, NC.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Matthews,NC.
