Phlebotomist II

PART TIME : M - Sat. 5-9am

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties trouble shooting training and making work flow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately
• Centrifuge specimens as required
• Record maintenance data and complete decontamination procedures
• Update patient information in the system
• Collect and store specimens according to established protocols
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal)
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens based on test requirements
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
• Package specimens appropriately for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures
• Place samples in correct containers/tubes and label accurately
• Follow specific protocols necessary to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual departmental training sessions
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• 2–4 years of overall experience

This is a Contract position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
