PART TIME : M - Sat. 5-9am
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties trouble shooting training and making work flow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately
- Centrifuge specimens as required
- Record maintenance data and complete decontamination procedures
- Update patient information in the system
- Collect and store specimens according to established protocols
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal)
- Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
- Fully understand and follow physicians’ orders
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens based on test requirements
- Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
- Package specimens appropriately for transport
- Store specimen samples at required temperatures
- Place samples in correct containers/tubes and label accurately
- Follow specific protocols necessary to maintain specimen integrity during transport
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend annual departmental training sessions
- Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2–4 years of overall experience
