Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires expertise in blood draws, specimen labeling, and patient data management, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of samples collected.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Label, centrifuge, and decontaminate specimens.
- Record maintenance data and update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
- Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples at the required temperature.
- Follow procedures specific to the protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- At least 6 months of hands-on phlebotomy experience.
Work Environment
Work hours are Monday to Friday, initially from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, transitioning to 8:45 AM to 5:45 PM eventually. The role requires working in a dynamic laboratory environment, adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a professional demeano

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
