The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position requires a keen understanding of specimen collection and handling procedures.
Responsibilities- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination.
- Update patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and execute physicians' orders effectively.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and accurately label them.
- Follow procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
- Proficient in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
- Experience in patient care and specimen processing.
- Ability to perform venipuncture and handle medical specimens.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.50/hr.
