• There is a $1.50/hr shift premium paid for off shift

Job Description

This Packaging Engineer role focuses on designing, developing, and releasing packaging material specifications that support high-quality, cost-effective, and damage-resistant packaging solutions. The position combines technical design, testing, and cross-functional collaboration to improve packaging performance, reduce costs across processing and distribution, and ensure alignment with evolving technologies and standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and release detailed packaging material specifications that meet product, quality, and operational requirements.
• Lead and execute projects aimed at reducing packaging material, processing, distribution, and damage-related costs.
• Analyze and resolve complex product and packaging issues by applying engineering principles, testing, and root cause analysis.
• Develop and apply graphic design elements to packaging, ensuring alignment with product branding and functional requirements.
• Define, document, and maintain identification standards for packaging materials to support consistency and traceability.
• Coordinate packaging requirements with manufacturing plants, internal departments, external sources, and customers to ensure cohesive implementation.
• Stay current on new packaging technologies, materials, and industry developments, and recommend improvements based on emerging trends.
• Apply high-quality network and synchronous organization practices to optimize packaging processes and information flow.
• Utilize lean strategies and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance packaging processes and promote teamwork.
• Create blueprints and technical drawings that accurately communicate packaging designs and specifications to stakeholders.
• Manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and timelines while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Partner with senior management to analyze packaging-related issues and develop effective solutions that support business objectives.

Essential Skills

• Expert knowledge of testing, design, and packaging processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience using Lotus Notes or other email communication tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
• Ability to partner with senior management to analyze and solve complex issues.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to create accurate blueprints and technical drawings for packaging designs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or a related technical discipline.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Formal qualification or professional background as a Packaging Engineer.
• Experience with packaging engineering in manufacturing, distribution, or related environments.
• Familiarity with lean methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
• Interest in staying informed about new technologies, materials, and innovations in packaging.

Work Environment

The role operates in a professional engineering environment that requires close collaboration with manufacturing plants, internal departments, and external partners. You will use standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email platforms, along with technical drawing tools to create and maintain packaging specifications and blueprints. The position involves coordinating requirements across multiple projects and stakeholders, working within a structured yet collaborative setting that emphasizes process improvement, lean strategies, and teamwork

This is a Contract position based out of Burton, MI.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $33.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Burton,MI.
