What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Designer/drafter position at Actalent?
Job Description
We are a leading technology company that is revolutionizing how industries use water with our innovative nanobubble technology. We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Designer/Drafter to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in supporting mechanical design and engineering operations by creating CAD models, engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs). You will work closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate transfer of engineering data into ERP systems, supporting manufacturing, procurement, and production activities.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD as needed.
- Produce comprehensive drawing packages including General Arrangement Drawings (GADs), fabrication and assembly drawings, and P&IDs.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) aligned with engineering designs.
- Enter and manage item data, BOMs, and work orders in NetSuite ERP.
- Ensure accurate linkage between CAD assemblies, BOMs, and ERP structures.
- Support the release of drawings and parts through SolidWorks PDM.
- Apply revision control updates and maintain drawing accuracy per company standards.
- Assist with Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and implement updates across CAD, PDM, and NetSuite.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to clarify design intent, resolve documentation issues, and ensure manufacturability and completeness of released data.
- Maintain organized documentation and adhere to configuration control processes.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks.
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–5 years of experience in mechanical drafting or design support.
- Experience creating detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Familiarity with BOM creation and multi-level assemblies.
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite, for item and BOM management.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks PDM or similar document control systems.
- Understanding of basic drafting standards.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and documentation needs.
- Experience with fluid systems, piping, pumps, or industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with GD&T principles.
- Exposure to ISO 9001 or structured engineering/document control environments.
You will work in a collaborative environment, partnering closely with engineers and design leads to edit and customize existing models. This role is focused on design execution and documentation rather than originating new designs. The work environment supports innovation and teamwork, and you will play a critical role in ensuring that engineering designs are accurately translated into manufacturable products. Your contribution will directly impact production efficiency and product quality.
