Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in designing, improving, and overseeing production processes to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality manufacturing. This position collaborates closely with production, quality, and design teams to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to an expansion and new build, helping shape modern manufacturing capabilities and processes.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and refine manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and design teams to optimize workflows and ensure smooth integration of new or improved processes.
- Analyze existing manufacturing operations to identify opportunities for process improvement and waste reduction.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles to enhance productivity and reduce defects.
- Support the implementation of new equipment, tools, and technologies in the manufacturing environment.
- Use engineering software and tools, including CAD and ERP systems, to develop and document process designs and improvements.
- Monitor manufacturing performance metrics and recommend corrective actions when processes deviate from targets.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of manufacturing documentation, including work instructions and process specifications.
- Participate in cross-functional problem-solving activities to address production issues and quality concerns.
- Support expansion and new build initiatives by helping design, plan, and implement efficient manufacturing layouts and processes.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving process issues.
- Proficiency with engineering software and tools such as CAD, ERP systems, and Excel.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with production, quality, and design teams.
- Experience in manufacturing engineering and process improvement.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on process design and optimization for new or expanding manufacturing operations.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate them into practical manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools.
- Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement initiatives across cross-functional teams.
Work Environment
This is an on-site, in-person role within a manufacturing environment. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with production, quality, and design teams on the shop floor and in engineering offices. The role involves regular use of engineering software such as CAD tools, ERP systems, and Excel to design, analyze, and document manufacturing processes. The work setting supports hands-on involvement with equipment, materials, and production lines, especially as part of an expansion and new build initiative, providing exposure to modern manufacturing technologies and layouts.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Canton, SD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.00 - $50.00/hr.
