Job Title: Remote Physical Substation Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Physical Substation Engineer to take technical ownership of all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and extra high voltage (above 230kV) substation projects. The role involves developing comprehensive designs and documentation for substations, including general arrangements, plan views, and specifications for major primary equipment.
Responsibilities
- Develop General Arrangements, Plan Views, Elevation Views, Grounding Plans, Cable Trough/Conduit Plans, Specifications for Major Primary Equipment, and Documentation for Design Calculations.
- Create Construction Documentation for studies, grounding, lighting, AC, and DC calculations for Station Service and Battery System Sizing.
- Conduct Bus Fault Stress Analysis.
- Provide technical support for procurement and construction.
- Collaborate seamlessly with Physical Designers and coordinate efforts with external and internal project team members.
- Identify when coordination is needed with design disciplines such as transmission line engineers and civil engineers.
- Focus on producing high-quality work and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
- Work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
- Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers, and communicate them to project team members.
- Serve as a technical specialist for system protection and communication.
- Advise management on maximizing ROI for the team and attend all client technical review meetings.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized, accredited program.
- Minimum of 7 years related work experience in high voltage substation design.
- Proficient in AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation.
- Proficient in CDEGS, WinIGS, or similar programs for lightning and grounding studies.
- Proficiency in assessing mechanical forces and thermal effects of high fault currents on rigid bus.
- Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- PE Licensed.
- Knowledge of outage sequences & constructability, and operation and maintenance.
- Ability to write up the scope, perform QA/QC, and manage direct reports.
- Experience with proposal writing and project estimating.
- Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes.
Work Environment
This position will ideally be hybrid out of one of our many office locations, however, we are open to hiring the right candidate in a fully remote capacity as well! Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.10 - $76.92/hr.
