Job Title: Lead Mechanical EngineerJob Description

This role involves client-facing responsibilities and managing the scope, budget, and schedule for the mechanical discipline on assigned projects, including executing change management. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide third-party mechanical engineering oversight and quality reviews, own the mechanical technical design, and may also serve as the engineer of record. The position requires performing or reviewing routine and complex engineering, design, analysis, and other technical tasks within the mechanical discipline using current technology, standards, calculation software, and cataloged products.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review P&IDs, equipment layouts, 3D models, piping isometrics, area classifications, sizing calculations, line lists, valve lists, equipment specifications, data sheets, requisitions, and technical bid analysis.
  • Collaborate with the integrated EPC team and clients to execute RFIs, deliverable reviews, change order requests, and engineering equipment buyout.
  • Develop the engineering project team vision, identify priorities, and align with operational goals.
  • Foster high-performing teams and behaviors to execute projects effectively.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing technical guidance on projects and disciplines.
  • Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, work product quality, and operating efficiencies.
  • Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure engineering standardization.
  • Stay updated with the latest technology and industry practices, finding practical applications.
  • Manage project changes directly with the client under the supervision of the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Perform work safely and effectively, understanding and following oral and written instructions.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Six years of related work experience in fossil fuels, power, or generation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in interpreting and providing direction on project controls and scheduling.
  • Independently applies knowledge and ensures compliance with quality programs.
  • Good negotiation, presentation, and persuasion skills.
  • Knowledgeable of ANSI, NFPA, and other industry codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Able to perform engineering calculations, such as pipe flow, line sizing, and pressure drop.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Discipline.
  • Actively involved in industry-recognized professional societies.
  • Knowledge of Aconex Document Controls software.
  • Clear understanding of construction and constructability practices.
  • Working knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
  • Experience with project controls and estimating.
  • Basic business and financial acumen.
  • Owner or client engineering background in power generation.
Work Environment

The position requires work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines, with overtime and weekends as necessary. The work environment encourages collaboration and continuous improvement, promoting a culture conducive to quality. The role involves adapting to change and ambiguity and requires a collaborative and systems-thinking approach.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Leawood, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
