Engineer – Power & Utilities (Entry-Level Friendly)

Help Modernize America’s Power Grid—Locally and Nationwide

Are you an early-career engineer looking to break into the electric utilities industry? Join a nationally respected engineering firm while supporting a local utility and playing a real role in modernizing the U.S. power grid. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain exposure to both underground and overhead electric distribution projects, work alongside experienced engineers, and build a long-term career in power and utilities.

As an Engineer, you’ll contribute to the design and delivery of electrical and fiber infrastructure projects while developing the technical, regulatory, and project coordination skills essential for success in the utility industry. This role is ideal for an EIT or soon-to-be EIT who wants meaningful responsibility, structured learning, and mentorship from seasoned professionals.

What You’ll Do

•Support the design of underground and overhead electric distribution and fiber projects for utility customers using AutoCAD

•Assist with engineering calculations, easement validation, cost estimates, and construction/permit packages

•Participate in field surveys, inspections, testing, and documentation of power distribution facilities

•Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to deliver projects on time and within scope

•Learn how to manage multiple projects while balancing quality, safety, and customer expectations

•Review and interpret GIS (Smallworld) data to identify conflicts or required updates

•Coordinate with internal departments (engineering, construction, permitting) to meet utility and client deadlines

•Apply company design standards, safety requirements, and regulatory codes to real-world projects

•Support QA/QC efforts to ensure designs comply with safety, construction, and governing authority standards

•Gain exposure to civil permitting processes and electronic pole design documentation

What We're Looking For

Required

•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or closely related)

•EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6–12 months

•U.S. citizenship

•Interest in power systems, electric utilities, or infrastructure renewal

Preferred (Not Required)

•Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in power, utilities, or electrical construction

•Proficiency with AutoCAD

•Familiarity with GIS Smallworld or similar mapping tools

Why This Role Is a Great Start to Your Career

•Foot-in-the-door opportunity with the electric utilities industry

•Real-world impact on grid modernization, reliability, and community infrastructure

•Mentorship from experienced utility and power engineers

•Clear path to increased technical responsibility and project ownership

•Exposure to both local utility work and large-scale national engineering standards

•Stable industry with long-term career growth potential

Work Environment

•Remote position (must reside in Minnesota)

•Strong potential to transition to a hybrid role in a local office as the team continues to grow

•Occasional local field visits to support surveys and inspections
