Land Survey Technician – Job Description
Overview
A Land Survey Technician supports surveyors and engineering teams by collecting, processing, and analyzing field data used for mapping, design, and construction. This role blends hands‑on fieldwork with technical drafting and data management to ensure accurate, reliable survey information for a wide range of land development and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Field Surveying
- Assist in performing boundary, topographic, construction layout, and control surveys.
- Operate survey instruments such as total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and levels.
- Set survey stakes, markers, and control points according to project requirements.
- Record field notes, measurements, and observations with accuracy and clarity.
Data Processing & Drafting
- Download, organize, and process field data using survey software.
- Verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies between field and office information.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to support project goals.
- Communicate field conditions, challenges, and progress to supervisors.
- Assist in preparing survey reports, sketches, and documentation.
Equipment & Safety
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment to ensure reliable performance.
- Follow company safety protocols and contribute to a safe work environment.
- Transport and set up equipment at various job sites.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
