Job Description
The Injection Mold Process Engineer develops and optimizes injection molding processes and products to support new product launches and improve existing molding operations. This role works closely with Product Development Engineering, the Mold Development team, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Sales to ensure the smooth release of new products into production and the implementation of process improvements for current products. The engineer promotes a positive, professional environment centered on continuous improvement, scientific molding, and lean manufacturing principles within a fast-growing medical technology setting.
Responsibilities
This role operates primarily within a plastics injection molding department in a fast-growing medical technology environment. The engineer works closely on the production floor and in adjacent engineering and quality areas, frequently interacting with cross-functional teams. The setting emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to lean manufacturing standards, with well-maintained molding equipment, tooling, and workstations. Work typically follows standard manufacturing hours, with occasional flexibility needed to support production launches, validations, and troubleshooting activities. The environment encourages open communication, collaboration, and a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

This role works closely with Product Development Engineering, the Mold Development team, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Sales to ensure the smooth release of new products into production and the implementation of process improvements for current products. The engineer promotes a positive, professional environment centered on continuous improvement, scientific molding, and lean manufacturing principles within a fast-growing medical technology setting.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Development, Mold Development, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to meet launch schedules, production timelines, and cost targets.
- Lead remediation efforts and drive process improvements across molding operations to enhance performance and reliability.
- Work with the Mold Development team to design, fabricate, and refine molds and tooling for prototypes, product launches, and full-scale production.
- Plan and execute validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) for production processes to ensure they meet customer technical specifications and quality requirements.
- Partner with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to develop and refine systems that optimize production efficiency and reduce downstream manual processes.
- Lead Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) and Nonconforming Material Report (NCMR) investigations related to injection molding processes and implement sustainable quality improvements.
- Maintain molding operations in a clean, well-organized state consistent with lean manufacturing principles.
- Comply with all applicable quality policies, specifications, regulations, and documented instructions.
- Communicate ideas, findings, and recommendations clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form to coworkers and leadership.
- Attend internal, customer, and cross-functional meetings and actively contribute meaningful input to support decision-making and project progress.
- Demonstrate honest, professional, and respectful communication while practicing effective listening skills in all interactions.
- Read and interpret blueprints and solid models to guide process development, tooling design, and troubleshooting activities.
- Publish and report weekly metrics on output and performance to track progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
- 10 years of manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years of hands-on injection molding process development and improvement in an ISO-regulated environment.
- Strong experience in injection molding, including process engineering, process development, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in mold validation activities, including IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols for production processes.
- Experience with Master Unit Die (MUD) frame and insert systems for rapid mold changeover, setup, and maintenance.
- Extensive experience with thermoplastics such as Polypropylene, Nylon, PEEK, and other high-temperature, fiber-reinforced resins.
- Working knowledge and application of Scientific Injection Molding principles.
- Experience in the design of injection molds and fixtures to support manufacturing and process improvements.
- Demonstrated skills in data analysis and root cause analysis for process optimization and problem resolution.
- Solid understanding and practical application of LEAN manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency with MS Office tools for data analysis, documentation, and presentation.
- High level of attention to detail and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings and recommendations to groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or related field preferred.
- Experience working in cross-functional business team environments.
- Experience in medical technology manufacturing or similarly regulated industries is advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
