Job Title: Phlebotomist II
Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and recommending workflow improvements.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
- Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as necessary.
- Update patient information efficiently.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and interpret physicians' orders completely.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
- Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Martinsburg, WV.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
