Job Title: Phlebotomist II

Job Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and recommending workflow improvements.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens accurately.
• Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as necessary.
• Update patient information efficiently.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and interpret physicians' orders completely.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Martinsburg, WV.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
