Job Description
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, accurately labeling and preparing specimens for transport, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Decontaminate and update patient information as necessary.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring integrity is maintained.
- Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.
- Answer telephone inquiries and provide laboratory results.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plantation, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
