Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Design Technician to join our growing utility design team. In this customer-facing role, you’ll serve as the primary liaison between developers, construction teams, and utility providers, helping design safe and efficient gas and electric systems for new communities and wildfire mitigation efforts. You’ll use GIS-based tools to create compliant designs, manage multiple projects, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to bring infrastructure projects to life.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and construction teams
- Design utility facilities using GIS-based Design Manager software
- Interpret construction drawings to define project scope
- Manage multiple projects from initiation to completion
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and internal teams
- Secure permits and easements for construction
- Execute contracts and agreements per regulatory guidelines
- Provide cost estimates and create work orders using SAP
- Attend occasional field visits (~10%) to assess project sites
- Participate in on-site client meetings to determine project requirements
Must-Haves:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Strong customer service skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Working knowledge of GIS or similar mapping software
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in design, construction, or related field
- Experience with SAP platform
- Previous utility design experience
- Familiarity with underground utilities
- Background in design, GIS, or graphic design
