Job Title: Field Application Engineer
The Field Application Engineer serves as the primary technical point of contact for customers, providing both pre-sale and post-sale support for advanced embedded hardware and software solutions. This role screens inbound technical inquiries, helps customers define product requirements, and delivers troubleshooting support for integration, configuration, and implementation issues. The position works closely with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, Program Management, and R&D teams to resolve technical challenges, ensure successful product integration, and drive continuous product and service improvements within the aerospace and defense market.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first line of contact for all customers with technical or customer service inquiries via email, telephone, and online conversations.
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support covering product usage, deployment, integration, and sustaining production activities.
- Train customers on the adoption and integration of products within their projects and product lines, including conducting workshops to ensure proper utilization.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients in the aerospace and defense sector to support long-term collaboration and product adoption.
- Design and deliver clear and compelling technical presentations and demonstrations to existing clients and prospective customers.
- Collaborate with the business development team to identify and recommend solution sets, including third-party components, that meet customer requirements.
- Evaluate customer requirements and propose customized technical solutions that address their specific application and performance needs.
- Work with cross-functional teams to support the development of new products and the enhancement of existing solutions for aerospace and defense applications.
- Stay current on advancements and trends in aerospace, defense, and embedded technologies to better advise customers and internal teams.
- Contribute to S&OP cycles by communicating customer project timelines, design wins, and anticipated order volumes to support accurate demand forecasting.
- Coordinate with Operations and Engineering to identify customer solutions, resolve technical issues, and ensure timely support.
- Provide structured customer feedback to Operations and Program Managers to drive product and service improvements.
- Collaborate with Program Managers, R&D, and Engineering to prioritize, promote, and schedule technical fixes and product updates.
- Act as a liaison between clients and internal teams, surfacing actionable insights that improve products, documentation, and support processes.
- Prepare customer-facing documentation such as application notes, whitepapers, and readme files to supplement user guides with reference examples and procedures.
- Triage incoming technical inquiries, create and manage support tickets, and drive issues to resolution through email, phone, and collaborative tools.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience providing technical support for embedded hardware and software solutions in a customer-facing role.
- Strong understanding of embedded hardware interfaces, including Ethernet, general-purpose outputs (GPOs), I/O, memory, storage, and video or graphics cards.
- Ability to debug and troubleshoot issues using Linux and real-time operating systems at a practical, hands-on level.
- Experience supporting customers through pre-sale solution identification and post-sale issue resolution.
- Ability to triage incoming technical inquiries, create support tickets, and resolve issues effectively via email and phone.
- Capability to navigate unclear or novel technical problems by leveraging internal engineering resources and documentation.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense environments and real-time operating system concepts.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to customers, sales teams, and engineering colleagues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with SpaceVPX and/or cPCI systems and familiarity with ARM and NXP PowerPC architectures.
- Background in aerospace or space applications development or technical support.
- Knowledge of NVIDIA embedded GPGPU technologies and their applications in high-performance embedded systems.
- Experience with embedded and real-time operating systems such as VxWorks 6.9, VxWorks 7, and embedded Ubuntu Linux.
- Experience with Windows 10 in embedded or rugged application environments.
- Experience managing work releases and product data in Arena PLM and using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with S&OP processes and cross-functional planning in a hardware product environment.
- Ability to influence stakeholders through clear technical communication and well-structured presentations.
Work Environment
The role is primarily office-based with frequent hands-on technical problem-solving on embedded hardware and software platforms. You work in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment where technical challenges vary widely and no two issues are the same. The position involves regular collaboration with strong internal technical resources, including Engineering, Business Development, Product, Operations, Program Management, and R&D teams. You will engage with advanced embedded systems and defense-oriented technologies, supporting a stable customer base and working on technically challenging projects that require both analytical thinking and clear communication.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
