- Comfort using laptops, mobile applications, and basic digital tools for data entry and communication.
- Desire to build a long-term career in the environmental field with opportunities for growth into other service lines.
This is a part-time field-based role averaging roughly 30 hours per week, with work driven primarily by rainfall and stormwater sampling requirements. The position supports a long-term contract to conduct water sampling at industrial facilities located throughout the region, including states such as Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Travel to these facilities is required, and the technician may visit 1 to 5 sites per day depending on rainfall and project needs. The role operates on an on-call basis, requiring flexibility to work irregular hours and respond when rain events occur. Work is typically organized quarterly and often spans about two months at a time until sampling quotas are met; between sampling periods, there may be opportunities to support other environmental projects, though this is not guaranteed. The technician will work primarily alone in the field while coordinating with facility staff on site and staying in contact with office-based data analysts and project teams. A company laptop and rental vehicle are provided for work-related travel, and the vehicle may be taken home if there is a safe place to park it; otherwise, it is returned to the office at the end of the day. Fuel expenses are reimbursed, and the use of a personal vehicle is eligible for mileage reimbursement at a standard rate. The technician will visit the office periodically to pick up sampling supplies, either daily or in bulk to store in the vehicle. When stormwater sampling is not active, there may be opportunities to shadow and assist other departments such as Industrial Hygiene, Due Diligence, and Remediation to gain broader experience. The work environment combines independent fieldwork at industrial sites with remote communication and occasional office visits, providing exposure to a wide range of environmental consulting activities and potential pathways into a future full-time role.
