Job Description
The Environmental Project Manager leads and manages multiple environmental and construction-related projects from contract award through final closeout. This role oversees contract compliance, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and client communication to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The Environmental Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between the client or owner, internal leadership, field supervisors, and accounting teams, maintaining clear communication around project scope, timelines, costs, and overall performance. This position is ideal for a project management professional with a strong background in civil or site construction and a focus on environmental work, particularly stream restoration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple environmental and construction-related projects simultaneously from contract award through final closeout.
- Oversee project startup, execution, and closeout while maintaining project budgets, schedules, and cost tracking.
- Ensure full contract compliance, including monitoring scope, deliverables, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage and process purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
- Track and manage change orders, submittals, and contract updates to maintain accurate project documentation.
- Monitor daily job logs and project progress to identify issues early and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Lead and facilitate preconstruction, progress, and completion meetings with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients or owners, internal leadership, field supervisors, and accounting teams regarding project status, timelines, and costs.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by proactively addressing concerns and maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Conduct post-project performance analysis to evaluate outcomes, identify lessons learned, and improve future project delivery.
- Travel regularly to project sites for site visits, meetings, and field oversight as required.
- Support project coordination activities including scheduling, procurement planning, and resource allocation.
- Oversee and coordinate self-performed construction activities, particularly those related to environmental and stream restoration work.
- 3–5 years of experience managing self-performed construction projects and/or field experience building stream restoration projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in an environmental discipline.
- Proven project management experience in civil or site construction, ideally with an environmental focus.
- Hands-on experience with stream restoration projects or closely related environmental construction work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for reporting, documentation, and communication.
- Experience using scheduling software to develop, maintain, and track project schedules.
- Familiarity with Viewpoint or similar construction/project management software for cost and document control.
- Strong skills in project coordination, including organizing tasks, resources, and timelines.
- Experience managing change orders, including documentation, pricing, and approval processes.
- Experience managing purchase orders and subcontract agreements, including tracking and approvals.
- Ability to monitor and maintain project budgets and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
- Ability to travel to and work at project sites as required.
- Working background in civil or site construction, with a focus on environmental projects.
- Experience with stream restoration construction methods and best practices.
- Ability to lead meetings and facilitate discussions among diverse project stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills to conduct post-project performance analysis and apply lessons learned.
- Detail-oriented approach to tracking submittals, change orders, and contract updates.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients and project partners.
- Interest in contributing to environmental improvement and restoration projects.

This is a field-based role with daily work on active construction and environmental project sites. The Environmental Project Manager will spend significant time on site, actively patrolling the work area, observing construction activities, and coordinating with field crews and subcontractors. A construction trailer will be available as an on-site workspace for planning, meetings, and documentation. The role involves regular travel to project locations for site visits, meetings, and field oversight. The environment is dynamic and hands-on, requiring comfort working outdoors and around heavy construction equipment and active restoration work. Transportation support is provided, and a profit-sharing program offers additional performance-based rewards.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.86 - $46.00/hr.
